Skype Linux Repo update problems May 2020 - valtam - 05-25-2020

No fix from MS yet, error message is:

W: The repository 'https://repo.skype.com/deb stable Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Data from such a repository can't be authenticated and is therefore potentially dangerous to use.
N: See apt-secure( manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
E: Failed to stat /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/nz.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial-security_InRelease - pkgAcqTransactionItem::TransactionState-stat (2: No such file or directory)
E: Failed to stat /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/nz.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial-updates_InRelease - pkgAcqTransactionItem::TransactionState-stat (2: No such file or directory)
E: Failed to stat /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/nz.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial-backports_InRelease - pkgAcqTransactionItem::TransactionState-stat (2: No such file or directory)

I was able to install the latest version with:

wget https://go.skype.com/skypeforlinux-64.deb

or:

wget http://repo.linuxliteos.com/linuxlite/pool/main/s/skypeforlinux/skypeforlinux_8.60.0.76_amd64.deb

This is probably going to break Install Updates on some people's systems.

Workaround: Disable the Skype repo for now, until there is a fix.

Menu, Settings, Software & Updates, untick Skype repo, follow instructions:
