Not sure, but your usb flash drive seems small.  I think it's recommended to have at least a 2GB flash drive.

I always had problems with unebootin; not sure why.  The  LL manual gives guidance  file:///usr/share/doc/litemanual/install.html#llusbwin
Also

From personal experience, in Linux Lite I use uNetBootin to create bootable usb media.  From Windows I used rufus (
https://rufus.akeo.ie).  You can see how to use rufus here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn3XFlZ_xXM.
I would recommend that you make sure your *.iso file matches the MD5Sum numbers seen here:
https://www.135978621.xyz/download.html#current and that you use a 2GB or higher capacity USB drive.

okay it has been a long time since I used make
I am geeting closer with the help form this forum
I have attached two files the first is the output of make   >>   makerror
The second is called make_inst_err  which is the output of make install
make error 1 and 2 I am unsure of even looking in the GNU make manual
I have in etc 1. the directory wireless   which is empty
                     2. the directory Wireless which has RT3070STA
should I have both of these directories?

Are you still talking about making a live usb?  It feels like the topic changed.

I am working on two separate problems and posted in the wrong one by accident
I apologize for this error
I did download the LL 2.6 32 bit iso again and recreated a usb boot ;
I creted a ext 4 partition and formatted with FAT32 and then created using Unetbootin

the USB stick I used is only 1G but after completion I still had 159M of free space
this time it boots to menu but regardless of the selection chosen I get an error
loading loop0
I am retrying tonight so we will see

I tried again tonight error as follows
used LL in safe mode menu selection so I can see loads
stops with the following
mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed Invalid argument
cannot mount loop0  (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs
and stops
I will have to get another larger usb stick and try again but I am interested in the reason for the error

You didn't mention that your ISO download md5 sum checked out.
You don't need to partition the usb drive.
