Can't test LinuxLite 7.6 in a virtual machine
#11
For in series upgrade from 7.4 to 7.6, your google AI result is wrong, see this thread for how to do it.

Is the 7.4 VM fully updated before trying the in-series upgrade ?
If not, it will not know about 7.6 and will claim to be already on the latest.

Hi Stevef, you're right! Just tried the version update another time after an heavy 7.4 update (one hundred of packets) and the 7.4 now is a 7.6 complete!
Yeahhhh, I'm so happy Smile
Therefore, the latest updates in 7.4 contains the utilities to do a version upgrade, right?
Well, I'll do all the crimes I know to the O.S. to test the behavior Smile
Thank you for your patience. Bye  Wink

Yes
When a new Linux Lite release is made, all existing versions (in the same series) get notified as part of the regular round of updates. After this flag has been set, the in-series upgrade becomes possible. If you didn't update your 7.4 system, it could not know that 7.6 is out so in-series upgrade is not available.

Prego.
We still don't know what is wrong with your VM install of the 7.6 iso.
As I don't know anything about VM, I'm probably not able to help on that.

No problem, I'll do all tests I need on the VM running right now, after this I'll install the LL 7.6 on a "physical machine" and finally, If all go right, install on my king computer.  Smile Have I to modify the subject as [SOLVED]? (I don't always frequent forums... and I need an English course. TY)

FYI! I also CANNOT get the installer to work using 7.6.iso. However, 7.4.iso does work correctly!

Hi Stellartk, as @stevef (do this mode work, yes? Thank you anyway) said, try to install LL 7.4, update the machine heavvly and finally do the update to the 7.6 version. This worked for me. Now I have some problems with the icons and the translation, but it's a lower problem. HTH. Bye, Lost  Wink

I'd like to confirm that I also cannot install LinuxLite 7.6 in VirtualBox - the installation process freezes after providing computer name, User name and password.

I tried to boot from iso and then do install. Also just direct install - both ways behave the same: just freezes and files are not copied on my most recent version of VirtualBox.

I would also like to confirm that installing LinuxLite 7.4 works like a charm, both as a direct install and when running installer after booting live environment from iso. Then upgrading from version 7.4 to LinuxLite 7.6 works perfectly fine. All in the same version of VirtualBox and in the same Virtual Machine instance.

I tried to experiment with the virtual disk size - no difference even when I provided more than enough space (besides, 7.4 installation worked in the same space and 7.6 upgrade worked in the same space too)

I also tried to change the type of the system in the Virtual Machine settings before the installation - just "Other Linux" or various versions or "Ubuntu" or "Linux x.x" - all variations that I've tried led to the same result - LinuxLite 7.6 installation was freezing in the VirtualBox Virtual Machine before starting file transfer, right when the progress bar was showing file transfer progress but not starting to move.

I'll have to test this at some stage. I use VMware.

Yeah works OK for me in virt-manager qemu/kvm installing from ISO though initial file load to RAM is a little slower in 7.6 than 7.4. Did he say that the 7.6 live ISO ran OK? I'll check back but it sounds like V-Box setting thing.
